Gee Whiz.. What a month…. So, the month started out great. My earnings were good, three sites were climbing google nicely and not ONE but TWO blogs gave me GREAT plugs in their blogs. Thank you Tyler [ www.TylerCruz.com ] and Dan [ www.dans-blog.com ]! You guys rock ! The plugs brought me some new readers, which is great. Still not making a dime from this darn blog though. On the up side, it does keep in the loop and that is defiantly worth something. Still I don’t yet have 50 subscribers, so no one has won my blog contest yet… If you have not Yet ENTERED, you should NOW. All you have to do is subscribe to my email subscriptions. When there are 50 subscriber one winner will be picked at random to win a $50 amazon.com gift card, and other goodie. So.. [ Click Here ] to subscribe.

Then shortly into the month I had few days of low earnings. My numbers quickly went up, and so I didn’t think much of it. They went down again, and up, and down, and up. Basically a roller coaster ride of money. No good! In fact, last week I had my lowest earnings day in month = $41.17 ! Yikes. That’s less then 50% of my average daily earnings in the last 2 months. I know that this line of work is going to have it’s ups and downs, so I try not to let it get to me. BUT, frankly, it freaks me the heck out when I see such low days like this. Before I explain what happen, here’s a little chart of my roller coaster earnings.  Ya – Charts are fun… ChartJPeg

Basically what happened was everything…. The triple whammy of SEO internet marking if you will. First off, my Keyword dropped from Spot #1 in google TO SPOT 5! Ouch! Second I was getting scrubbed left , right, up and down from my network, and third there a error on my sight. You see “ effortless “ income isn’t exactly “ effortless ” . Frankly I had an offer that was running so good I put it on the back burner, let it cook, and haven’t touched it in months! This months mess was created by ME, and ME alone. Of course this offer was going to reach it’s cap. And OF COURSE google was going to see I hadn’t touched the sight in a while and down grade me. AND If I should have been at least looking at the sight enough to notice that 1/2 the freaking pages you weren’t able to access. So, on 11/22 I kicked it into high gear. Fixed what needed to be fixed and little do you know my earnings started to jump back were they should be. Currently my monthly average this month is $87.65. No bad for a month like this, but far lower then I need them to be!

The moral of the story is two fold. For one I can’t be leaning on one of my sites for most of my earnings. I really, really need to get these other sites and other things into high gear! I mean REALLY! Secondly, “Effortless” is not “Effortless”. What you, or I, work on today, will benefit us in the future.

To my American Readers… Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

To everyone else – Thank you so much for your comments and support.

Love,

Becky

Your efforts and results are inspiring nonetheless.

Think of it this way. At least you can do something about it. Whereas in a job situation you could just be told “Oh, sorry, we’re downsizing so we had to lay you off”

I totally relate on the website thing. I had a site that was getting SEO traffic for the last 4 months and I didn’t realize the affiliate network canned the offer. People were clicking on an offer and being sent to some stupid smilies for MSN. DOH!

Fixed the links, but I probably lost out on some revenues for 4 months. :(

Oh well, you can’t catch everything, but it does pay to be diligent in checking your sites.

The ups and downs can be difficult but they’ll only make us work harder, become stronger, and figure out how to continue to expand.

Keep up the good work and congrats on the blog growth.

    Thank you Jonathan! Thank you!

Thanks Paul. Right now it’s just frustrating because I feel like I am on the brink of being able to do this full time, but I just can’t when it is so unsteady right now. If 2 or 3 sites were generating income, I’d be more confident about things. Thank you for the encouragement though. I’ll keep chipping away. : )

Have you ever had a day in Affiliate Marketing, where you didn’t make a dime? If so What did you do?
    Have a happy Turkey Day!

Google updated their algo around a week ago , everyone has been upset over it. My sites have been chugging along fine but I’ve had around half a dozen big players tell me their traffic is down anywhere from 20% to 40%.

Brendon, Ugh. That explains a lot… Any word as to what they have changed yet?

What? How’d you get Jonathan Volk to comment on your blog? I can’t even do that. Haha.

hey becky – great blog! I am also more of an SEO than a PPC person.

I see big fluctuations in my AdSense income as well. It’s very easy to become obsessed with it, which is why I only logon every week or so.

$87.65/day is bad for you but honestly if I reached that I would be ecstatic. I was just wondering if there was any way to view your archives?

Tyler, you have to slip him a $20 and tempt him with soda ;)

Good work Becky, the ups and downs can be daunting but it’s just part of the job! If anything it’s taught you a lesson in monitoring your sites and keeping them fresh.

Just a thought, perhaps you should put a subscription box in the sidebar, above the fold on your blog to encourage more people to opti-in :)

Hey Alex! Sorry, I thought there was already a place on my blog that let you access the archives, but i was wrong. I just added it to the right side bar. Enjoy!

    Yes, Great idea Dan!

Do you still take free lancers? I should hire you for my web design. Contact me with prices if you do.

And Yes, Tyler & Dan … I paid Jonathan Volk for the comment. … No, just kidding. I think he’s probably just a really nice guy who is trying to give my blog a boost by commenting! Thanks Jonathan!

    Hey Becky,

I guess you have to take the ups and downs in this industry and just keep on keeping on…

The way I look at it, as long as I’m putting effort into work that I know will build income long term, I don’t worry if it’s not always paying off straight away. I probably would if I was going hungry though.

    Thanks for your honest post,

    Jym
