What if You Were Told You Had Cancer?
June 16, 2010 | 8 Comments
For the last 2 months I have had 2 pea size swollen lymph nodes on my collar bone. Suspecting my body had some sort of infection I filled an old prescription of amoxicillin that was laying around the house. After I finished the prescription my lymph nodes were still the same size, one was marginally bigger. I still thought nothing of it, but my mother kept bothering me to get them looked at.
2 days ago I went to the doctors…. And apparently I had more swollen lymph nodes basically all over my body. He took chest x-rays and blood. To sum it up, the doctor is concerned I may have lymphoma (Cancer of the lymph nodes ) … No masses were found in the chest x-rays and I will get the blood work results this week. The blood work will indicate if further tests need to be done, it will not say if I do or do NOT have cancer. But, Wow, ya, Lymphoma.
And so, as anyone can imagine a lot goes through your head when you are only 30 and a physician says the words “I am concerned about cancer”. My main question to myself has been, “If I do have lymphoma, then what?”
Would I still want to do internet marketing? Do I still want to do my other business? What about traveling? What about kids? What about Marriage? What about the my doggies?
And the truth is Internet Marketing lets you have a particular life style that I enjoy. The work schedule is extremely flexible. You can work at 2:00 AM or 2:00 PM, doesn’t make a difference. It’s constantly changing and challenging. Everyday is different. The possibilities are endless. With internet marketing I could travel! Go out to nice dinners more often. Do more weekend adventures. Do less laundry and more living. I could spend more time with the people I love, all while still maintaining an income.
BUT with that said, I was put on this earth to save animals, period. And frankly with my other business, I’m not saving them. I’m just walking them and training them. There is just something not satisfying about it. I want to be able to spend more time at the wild life rehab. center that I’ve been working at for 10 years now. Not just once a week for a few hours like I do now. And maybe do more volunteer work. At the SPCA maybe. Put my skills and college education to good use.
If YOU were told you had cancer today were would you want your life to be? How would you want your life to be? Are you living, or at least working toward the life YOU want? Listen, most of us never think about death. And when we do we think about it in the context of other people. Furthermore, if we do think about it with ourselves we think “when we are old and die”. This entire experience has truly taught me the fragility of life. 70% of people with lymphoma have ZERO symptoms. It’s taught me that wasting a day ( or days ) is sad. My current average earning of $70 a day is all fine and dandy but if I truly want to make a living at this, I need to kick it up a notch!
So, here I am. Waiting to see if I have caner or not. And planning how the hell I’m going to kick it up a notch.
And so I ask you, what would you change if you had cancer?
Love,
Becky

Becky – wow – I’m really sorry to hear that.
Here’s hoping for a positive result (well, technically a negative result).
If you do end up having Lymphoma, do you know how early in its stages it is? Hopefully it was detected early enough to get the most efficient treatments in early.
Good luck, and you sure seem brave!
Becky,
I hope things turn out for the best and you will be in our thoughts.
I have the same question as Tyler, if it’s detected early is it treatable?
IF it is Lymphoma is it treatable, Very treatable.
Hope all the tests came out negative. Let us know how it’s goin ok.
